Yeni Valide Mosque

The Yeni Valide Mosque was built in 1665 after it’s construction started in 1661 by Turhan Sultan and was built to show her piety, power and generosity to her people. Everyone who was non-muslim who lived in that area for centuries were forced to move to another quarter of the city because it was a mosque complex for muslims. Inside the mosque complex was a primary school and one of the busiest markets in Constantinople. Turhan Sultan had to pay for over 400 staff to run the mosque. At the opening ceremony Turhan Sultan gave gifts of furs and gems to invited guests and threw gold coins to the crowd to show her generosity. The mosque complex included a tomb which was for the  members of the royal family.

The mosque is in good condition today because it hasn’t fallen down yet and hasn’t started too.

Vikings

Vikings

The Vikings were originally from Scandinavia which is now known as Denmark, Norway and Sweden but they conquered a lot of countries like Canada, Greenland, Scotland, Iceland, Ireland and the Faroe Islands.

Travel

Vikings were most well known for their form of travel, which was by ship across the ocean and it proved a very effective way of travel. The ship below is the way the Vikings travelled and conquered all of those countries.

Jewellery was a sign of wealth and separated the poor from the rich, it was also a way to show their craftsmen ship.

This Viking brooch was only worn by the rich to show there wealth. It is also very detailed and shows the skills of the Viking craftsmen.

Dian Fossey

“The man who kills the animals today is the man who kills the people who get in his way tomorrow” Dian Fossey.

Quotes like this help you see why Dian fought for the gorillas. Dian Fossey was a zoologist who studied gorilla groups over 18 years. She studied them daily in Rwanda in the mountain forests.  Dian Fossey was a woman of her word, she said that she was going to protect the gorillas and that is exactly what she did, doing whatever it took even if it would harm her. If someone built a hut or something near the gorillas Dian would burn it down and she also had machine guns for if anyone tried to hurt the gorillas. Dian was also protecting the gorillas from poachers, a poacher is a person who hunts or removes animals or fish illegally. Dian Fossey was murdered by most likely a poacher who wanted the gorillas because she wouldn’t allow anything to happen to them. I think that gorillas respected her for what she did to help and protect them.
